About

James (Jim) G. Kemp

Nearly five decades of hands-on experience in industrial pipe, valves and fittings, spanning sales, distribution and systems expertise.

Who is Jim Kemp?

Jim Kemp is an industrial PVF professional with 47 years in the industry. His career began in 1973 in the warehouse. After surviving a devastating tornado, his path shifted from the warehouse to sales, and he went on to build and operate his own PVF supply house, serving industrial plants, contractors, engineers and wholesale distributors.

Over his career he has worked closely with manufacturers, distributors, contractors and end users across a wide range of industrial sectors, with extensive knowledge of piping systems, valve applications, fittings, materials, industry standards and supply chain operations.

What he does now

Through Jim Kemp Consulting he helps companies pass practical experience on to their newer people, and provides PVF training, technical guidance and investor and acquisition advisory. His mission is to simplify complex industrial standards and make the PVF world accessible.

In October 2025 he published Introduction to Industrial PVF: Pipe, Valves, and Fittings, a practical guide written to mentor the next generation of industrial professionals.

“When an experienced person retires, a company can lose far more than a name on its payroll.”

It can lose decades of practical knowledge: the lessons learned from customers, job sites, specifications and mistakes. That knowledge needs to be shared before it walks out the door.
